Michaela Cox

I am an Austin native. I grew up in Cedar Park with my parents and two older half brothers. When I’m not in the classroom you can find me at a dog park with my pup Penelope, hiking to a swimming hole, or shopping at Target. I’m very close with my family and adore my role as an aunt to my niece and nephew.

When my nephew was born in 2009 I realized my calling was to work with children. I started by participating in a class in high school that allowed me to intern in an elementary classroom every other day. This experience proved to me that the classroom is where I needed to be. After high school, I studied Child Learning and Development as well as Psychology at The University of Texas at Dallas. I was a nanny through the school year and a teacher at a Montessori preschool in Leander in the summers until I graduated in 2016. Upon graduation, I then returned to the same Montessori preschool and worked with children from 18 months old to school age. I spent most of my time teaching students 4 to 6 years old and enjoyed challenging them to reach their potential. For the last year and a half I have been nannying while pursuing a teaching certification for Early Childhood through 6th grade.

The heart of my teaching philosophy is that every child has potential and it is an educator’s duty to help that child realize their potential. Everyone is different and I strive to meet each individual’s needs to the best of my ability. I also work to ensure my students are comfortable and happy in our classroom. I hope to foster a safe place for each of your children to grow. Creating empowered and curious learners is my goal. When you show a child how fun and rewarding learning can be, you create a lifelong learner. I feel very lucky to have found a purpose and a passion for such a fulfilling field. I look forward to exploring with and challenging the Peacock Class!
