Rebecca Borrelli

Originally from Ohio- Rebecca earned her undergraduate degree in Art Education from Kent State University. Shetaught elementary art for five years, before coming to Austin as a graduate student in the University of Texas’ Art Education Master’s Program. This past summer, if you visited the Blanton Art Museum on Free Thursday, you might have attended one of the family art activities she designed.

Rebecca’s experience with children and art extend beyond public school and museum classrooms. She has taught preschool, directed summer camp, and had a unique opportunity to teach art to students in Haiti. Her medium of choice is graphite, ink and occasionally a paintbrush. She interned for one year under a working artist in Miami, Florida where she learned to mix paints, stretch canvas, and commission art. During her career as a teacher, she sold art from a small local studio/gallery, and continues to make art in her free time while as a graduate student.

One quote to describe her teaching style comes from Spanish artist Pablo Picasso: “All children are born artists- the problem is remaining that way as they grow up.” Her hope is to help every child foster an artistic perspective as they enter adulthood, feel confident in their unique way of seeing the world, and capable in their ability to recreate personal dreams in art and life.
