Welcome! My name is Jill Howell.

As the daughter of an Air Force officer, I grew up moving to several places across the United States, but I have always considered California my home state. In 2016, my husband, our three teenage children, and I moved from California to Austin—and I can honestly say it was one of the best decisions we ever made!

My love for working with children started early. During breaks from college, I worked as an assistant teacher at the same preschool I attended as a child. I also spent two summers working at a camp for children with diabetes. I graduated from Cal Poly State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Nutritional Science and became a Registered Dietitian, specializing in geriatric nutrition.

After my second child was born, I took time away from my career to raise my children. In 2005, I began volunteering at our local elementary school, which eventually turned into a part-time job. I quickly realized how much I loved being around children every day and being a part of their learning and growth.

I have been happily working at Lupine Lane since 2018. I started as an Assistant Teacher in the Penguin Classroom before becoming the Lead Teacher in the Hummingbirds Classroom. I also had the opportunity to lead the Owl Classroom with our 4–5-year-olds for a couple of years. I absolutely adore the early childhood years and love being part of all the growth, learning, laughter, and special memories that happen along the way.

My husband and I now have three wonderful adult children and two adorable grandsons who are only three months apart! On the weekends, you’ll usually find me tackling a home renovation project, crafting, spending time on the lake with family and friends, or, when I’m lucky enough, babysitting one of my grandsons. ❤️

Favorite Book as a Young Child

My favorite books in preschool were the Paddington Bear series by Michael Bond. I loved Paddington’s adorable outfit, curious adventures, and the warmth of the Brown family who welcomed him into their home. I especially loved the sister, Judy Brown—with her blonde hair like mine. My parents would read the stories to my sisters and me all the time. Forty-five years later, I still have my stuffed Paddington Bear, with his tag still on him!

Favorite Part of the Day in Preschool

My favorite part of preschool was definitely arts and crafts, especially in December. I loved making presents and ornaments for everyone in my life—I could never make enough! I still remember the pride and excitement of giving my creations to my parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and even neighbors. My parents and I still have some of my handmade ornaments on our Christmas trees. My preschool was such a special place filled with love and happy memories that I even returned as a teenager to work there for two summers.
