Hi, y’all! My name is Olivia Thompson, and I am so excited to be a part of your child’s learning journey this year! I graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2025 with a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science and a minor in Geography. While I have a deep passion for protecting the environment, my love for working with children has always guided my career path.

There is something truly special about watching young minds learn, grow, and discover the world around them. I love creating a classroom where children feel safe, encouraged, and excited to explore through play, creativity, and hands-on learning. Seeing their confidence grow as they develop new skills and celebrate everyday accomplishments is one of the most rewarding parts of being a teacher.

I am 23 years old and was born in Kansas City, Missouri, but my family moved to Austin in 2008, and I grew up in the Lake Travis area. It has always been home, and I am so happy to be teaching in the community that helped shape me.

Olivia’s Early Childhood Memories

Favorite Book as a Young Child

My absolute favorite book in preschool was The Very Hungry Caterpillar. I can still picture us gathered around on the rug, captivated as the tiny creature munched his way through apples, plums, and that incredible feast of chocolate cake and pickles. Poking our fingers through the die-cut holes made the caterpillar feel real, but what truly stayed with me was the magic of his transformation. Watching him build his cocoon and emerge as a vibrant, sprawling butterfly didn’t just teach me a story—it sparked a lifelong fascination with bugs.

Favorite Part of the Day in Preschool

My favorite moments in preschool were the ones where creativity had no rules and everything was open to interpretation. I can still vividly remember the days our teacher would hand out papers pre-printed with just a few random, squiggly black lines, challenging us to finish the picture. While some kids saw an ocean wave or a mountain, those simple strokes were a canvas for pure imagination. There were no “right” answers or outlines to stay inside of, just complete freedom. That simple exercise taught me to look beyond what was right in front of me, transforming ordinary marks into extraordinary worlds and showing me the real joy of seeing possibilities where others just saw blank space.
